The outcome of my project (Final post)

                                                                 Reflection

My project was to help beginner pitchers on their mechanics so it is easier for them to hit their spots and learn new pitches when they get older and better .The outcome of my project was good, I thought it worked well and it will be easy for  them to understand what their coaches are trying to get them to to. I know as a player that you don't always understand what they are saying or what they want you to do.Since I know  how it is very difficult to make the corrections, I am very happy with the outcome because I feel that having a visual  helps you understand better and make the correction a best as you can.The skills I learned through the 20 time project was time management and organization. I expect my 20 time presentation to go ok, sometimes I speak to fast and then don't speak long enough. I definitely feel comfortable speaking loud and clear  and need improvement on speaking slower.

What have we learned so far?

In my 20 time project so far i have explained to my students the basic mechanics of pitching and the most important mechanics of the pitch that help make the pitch better and faster, I also showed them how to throw a fast , change  and curve. As soon as you become a pro at the basics then you can start to learn the other pitches which is what i am gonna teach next. The very next pitch to learn is the drop so now you have 4 different spins for the batter to worry about. In my next blog post I will show the correct grip for the drop and explain the proper mechanics on how to throw it. Many people throw it  a different way but you find the best way that works for you and that is in general for all pitches, even a screwball which is generally one of the last pitches you learn.

Above  is a diagram to show the difference between the pitches and how they will look, It also shows what the difference between each pitch is. For a lefty they would be opposite. This diagram does not have all the different pitches on it but it shows you the point in why you need to have all theses different pitches with the proper mechanics and good spin or the ball will be crushed every pitch.Another thing I am going to teach is spoting for each pitch because that make a big difference as well in how well the batter makes contact with the ball. In the diagram these are the spots you want these pitches and don't want to miss your spot.

Pitching instruction for success in softball

Jenna Garofalo                                                                                                                                         Period 3                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   In my 20 time project i have talked about basic mechanics so far because before you start getting into all the different pitches  you need to make sure you have the right mechanics.By Jan.1 2018 i hope to start talking about the two  most common pitches/ beginner pitches which are the first two you learn when pitching.

Basic mechanics

For the first part of my 20% project, I'm going to talk about the basic mechanics you need to learn to pitch in softball and how to do it correctly. I am passionate about teaching this because I love to play softball and wish it could be my whole life. I want to share this passion with others and hopefully they share their love for the game, passing it down to each generation and I hope the love for this amazing game never dies. My goal doing this project is to help new pitchers form better mechanics so their softball career is  easier and longer. My end result for this project is going to be a video of me explaining the right mechanics of pitching and how it helps your pitch  be better. For example, I'm going to start off with the basic mechanics.  The two most important Mechanics  of pitching we are going to talk about are arm circles and how to grip the ball.

Arm circle                                                                                                                       Image result for arm circle pitching mechanics softball with labels

The picture above shows the arm circle and the radius of how far away your circle should be from your body. Your arm circle should be as close to your body as you can get it . The better the arm circle, the better the pitch. Many coaches recommend you start off slow in the the back swing in to your arm circle , otherwise your arm circle is crazy and there is no way you can throw a strike. The arm circle  is the the most important  part of the system.

 Fastball Grip

Image result for Softball Pitching Grips

This is the correct way to hold the softball when pitching a fastball. There are many ways to grip the ball depending on the pitch you are throwing, but this is the  most important pitch and the grip to learn first. The grip is the most important mechanic to learn. The better the grip and spin, the harder the pitch. When learning to pitch, the first thing you learn is how to hold the  ball. Knowing the correct mechanics for a fastball, you use the same grip and start going threw your wind up also know as your arm circle . In order the get the best flick  on the ball using the same motion and grip slightly turn your palm facing away from you when the ball it at your ear and release from your hips.
